Installing Oracle Enterprise Manager


System Requirements

To install and use Oracle Enterprise Manager components, you need the following minimum resources:

Hardware

Note:
See the Compatibility Issues section in the Oracle Enterprise Manager Readme for information on the specific Oracle7 server releases and operating systems that are supported by Oracle Enterprise Manager and its components.

Software

The Installation Process Overview

To install and configure Oracle Enterprise Manager and its components, you need to complete the following steps:

1.
Exit all Oracle applications that are currently running on the Windows machine. Stop all Oracle services from the Control Panel.
2.
Before installing the new version, uninstall any previous version of Enterprise Manager to remove any unnecessary files.
3.
Run the Oracle Installer to install the Oracle Enterprise Manager software, required utilities, and documentation. See Installing Oracle Enterprise Manager Components on page 1-3.
4.
Install and configure SQL*Net version 2.3 for your system. The TCP/IP network protocol adapter must be installed to automatically discover services with the 7.3.3 Intelligent Agent. Other protocols can be configured for use with Enterprise Manager version 1 Database Applications, but TCP/IP is the only protocol supported for the Discovery feature and the Intelligent Agent.
5.
Configure the Intelligent Agent. See Chapter 2, Agent Configuration.
6.
Perform the necessary configuration to allow the Enterprise Manager Console to discover and manage network services. See Discovering Network Services on page 3-4.
7.
Perform any additional configuration required by a component.

Installing Oracle Enterprise Manager Components

After verifying that all hardware and software requirements have been met, you are ready to install the Enterprise Manager software.

Starting the Oracle Installer

To install Oracle Enterprise Manager on your PC, perform the following steps:

1.
Login to the PC. On Windows NT, log on as an administrator-equivalent user.
2.
Close any Oracle applications that are running and shut down all Oracle agents, databases, or listeners on the PC.
3.
Mount the CD-ROM install media and locate the appropriate install directory, such as \NT_x86\INSTALL or \WIN95\INSTALL.
4.
Double-click on the ORAINST.EXE or SETUP.EXE executables in the File Manager or Explorer to start the Oracle Installer.
While using the Installer, click on the Help button in the dialog boxes for information on installation options.
a.
Accept the default language (English) or choose a different language from the pull-down list. Check the Oracle Enterprise Manager Readme for supported languages.
b.
Enter a company name.
c.
Choose an Oracle home directory or accept the default.

5.
Select the Oracle products that you want to install. From the product selection screen, select the product name from the Products available list. Click on the Install button to move the product to the Products installed list.

Click the Install button to install the products.
7.
After the Installer has completed the installation of Oracle Enterprise Manager, select the Exit button. Oracle strongly recommends that you re-boot the PC after the installation is complete.

Installing the Oracle Intelligent Agent

Intelligent Agents are available for the Windows NT and UNIX platforms, shipped with the 7.3.3 Server, and installed on the remote, managed machines.

UNIX

On UNIX, install the Intelligent Agent using the UNIX Installer by performing the following steps:

Start the Installer.
2.
Select the Intelligent Agent 7.3.3. The following products are Intelligent Agent dependencies:

Choose an Oracle Home directory.
You can install the Intelligent Agent in the following locations:

Click the Install button.

Windows NT

On Windows NT, install the Intelligent Agent using the Oracle Installer for NT from the Oracle Enterprise Manager 1.3.5 CD or the 7.3.3 Server for Win NT CD by performing the following steps:

1.
Start the Installer.
2.
Select the Intelligent Agent 7.3.3. The following products are Intelligent Agent dependencies:

Choose an Oracle Home directory.
On Windows NT, you can only have one working $ORACLE_HOME. Therefore, the Intelligent Agent must be installed in the 7.3.3 $ORACLE_HOME.
4.
Click the Install button.

Removing Oracle Products

If you want to remove Oracle products:

1.
Start the Oracle Installer.
2.
Select the products to remove from the Installed Products window.
3.
Select the Remove button.
4.
Exit the installer when you are finished.
Attention:
When you remove Oracle Enterprise Manager or Performance Pack, you need to manually drop the repository if you want to remove these tables from the database. See Manually Creating, Dropping, or Upgrading the Repository on page C-3 for more information. You may also want to drop the user account that has been set up specifically for the repository.
