Installing Pro*COBOL



System Requirements

This section lists the minimal hardware and software required to install and run Pro*COBOL.

CD-ROM Quick Start

Before you install Pro*COBOL, make sure that you perform the following tasks:

  1. Insert the CD-ROM.

  2. Run ORAINST.EXE by typing G:\WIN95\INSTALL\ORAINST or G:\WINNT\INSTALL\ORAINST

    where G: is the logical drive letter of your CD-ROM.

  3. Follow the on-screen directions about language, company, Oracle Home directory, and CONFIG.SYS.

  4. Select Precompiler Products from the list in the Available Products window.

  5. Select Pro*COBOL for Windows NT/95 from the Precompiler Products window.

  6. Choose the Install button.

CD-ROM Installation Instructions

Before you install Pro*COBOL, make sure that you perform the following tasks:

When you install from a CD-ROM, the Oracle Installer does not automatically copy itself onto your hard disk.

The Oracle Installer

  1. Insert the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.

  2. Verify that you can access the files on the CD-ROM.

  3. Type the following before you start the Oracle Installer, if your system has a monochrome or grayscale monitor:

  4. [C:\] SET TK2_TIO=VIDEOM

    where C is the designator of your Windows NT/95 boot drive.

    Note
    If you do not set this command, the Oracle Installer interface does not display correctly on your monochrome or gray scale screen. After the installation is complete, you can set this parameter in your CONFIG.ORA file.

  5. Type

    where G: is the logical drive letter of your CD-ROM.

  6. Follow the on-screen directions about language, company, Oracle Home directory, and CONFIG.SYS.

  7. Select Programmer/2000 from the list in the Available Products window. Then choose the Install button.

  8. Select Pro*COBOL from the Programmer/2000 window. Then choose OK.

  9. The Oracle Installer progress bar shows the percentage of installation completed.

  10. Choose OK when the Notification window displays the "Installation Successful" message.

  11. The Available Products window reappears. You can select other products to install, or quit the Oracle Installer.

Oracle Directory Structure

During installation, the Oracle Installer creates a directory structure which supports multiple versions of a product. It creates a main directory, referred to as the Oracle Home directory, which holds the Pro*COBOL subdirectories and files as well as subdirectories for other Oracle products. If this is your first time using Oracle products, your default Oracle Home directory is \ORAWIN95 or \ORANT.

Other subdirectories may appear in your directory structure depending on the products or options you install.
